Q: I was wondering if the father and Mother of the groom are supposed to pay for the groomsmen's tuxes? My soon to be mother-in-law asked me and I wasn't sure. A: To be completely honest with you, there is no right or wrong answer here. Traditionally speaking, there were certain "duties" that used to be outlined for the parents of the bride as well as the parents of the groom. For the past ten years or so the "traditions" pertaining to who pays for what have changed drastically, with over 75% of all engaged couples paying for the entire wedding themselves. As a result, there are no definite restrictions as to who pays for what. The best advice I could offer to you would be to suggest that you sit down with all financial contributors to your wedding and decide on the total amount of money they will be spending on your wedding. You can then divide up that lump sum into various categories , allocating the funds to certain aspects of the wedding. To answer your question directly, there is no specific person that is "supposed to" purchase the groomsmen's tuxes, but it is important for you to determine who pays for what according to your own particular situation. |
