Timing of Wedding Toasts

Q: When is the toast to the bride typically done? During the speeches or right after dinner? What about the bride & groom speech? Please help!

A: Let me begin by saying that this is your wedding and therefore you can do it your way. It's up to you to schedule the toasts and speeches as you see fit, as there is really no "wrong" time. However, generally speaking, the toast to the bride is done by the maid of honour or the parents of the bride, and is done sometime during or shortly after dinner. The bride and groom's speech generally takes place after dinner is completed, and the bride and groom's speech should be the last speech of the evening. It is typically done before the dancing begins. That said, I also have one tip for you. Try not to schedule your speeches and toasts at times when meals will be cleared off the tables as it becomes very noisy when the wait staff is clanking dishes. Just a hint to make sure the day runs smoothly.
