Priests Performing a Wedding

Q: I just found out that the priest at my catholic church will not bless a wedding outside of a church. My fiancé and myself would like to have our ceremony at the reception hall. Are their any priests who might accept to bless a wedding outside of a church or even on a Sunday?

A: You're absolutely right. The Catholic church doesn't "bless" or "recognize" marriages held outside of the church. This can get a bit tricky, but you do have one option available to you: If you hire a wedding officiant to perform your ceremony, he/she will be able to travel to any location to do so. You could get married at any location that you'd like, on any day, and at any time. The marriage will be performed as a Catholic ceremony and will be completely legal a far as the government is concerned. You will be officially married. However, there is a catch. The Catholic church will still not "bless" or "recognize" the marriage as being valid. If it's really important for you that the church recognize your marriage, then you have to conform to their regulations and conduct the ceremony at their church, etc. Just keep in mind that it is only in the eyes of the church itself that you will not be married, but according to the law, the government etc, your marriage is completely legal and nobody would batt an eyelash at your ceremonial choice.
