French and English Invitations
Q: Half of my fiancé's family is French speaking and he feels
that I should have some of the invitations printed in French. I'm printing
my own invitations on the computer and that in itself is time consuming.
I really don't feel like starting to make "special" invitations
for his French speaking relatives. Is it socially appropriate to send
invitations in the guest's first language or in the bride and groom's
first language? I'm sure if I sent them invitations in English they'd
be able to figure it out. Thanks again you've been a great help.
A: I'm going to agree with you on this one....your primary language is
English and it's your wedding day, so English it is! There's really no
need to go out of your way to customize the invitations. It would be a
nice gesture, mind you, but it's certainly not a necessity! My advice
would be this: If you have time to do it and make the adjustment to French
language, then go ahead, it would be a nice touch. If it is going to feel
like an obligation for which you don't have the extra time, then don't
burden yourself with it, as it is really not expected of you! Besides,
you're right....I'm sure they'll be able to figure it out if it's in English!
