Tips on Wedding Decorating
by Elizabeth Johnston - Decorations for All Occasions

Decorating is a highlight to one of the biggest days of your life. It reflects your personality and expresses your creative style. Every couple wants their wedding day to capture a magical atmosphere, some easier to plan and more affordable than others.

Decorating requires a lot of labour and planning to ensure the atmosphere you want is created. Often as your wedding draws closer and certainly on your wedding day itself you will be under a lot of pressure, with functions to attend and many arrangements to make for both the wedding and reception. Time is limited for members of the family and wedding party to take on the task of decorating, as well as to be relaxed.

If you use a professional decorator, shop around for one that reflects your style. Set up an interview and review recent work, discuss your theme, budget, wedding location and event colours. They will have an inventory of props, even table linen and chair covers that you can rent, and if they don't have it they know where to get it. They will also deliver, set-up and remove your decorations. It's a wise investment to rent decorations that you will only use for one day. Make sure you ask important questions regarding deposits, what their services include, cancellation policy and site requirements. This is an excellent alternative if time is limited or designing your wedding décor leaves you baffled and stressed!

If you prefer to arrange your own decorating look for decorations that are easy to assemble and can be prepared ahead of time. Have a very responsible person who will transport them to your site quickly and artistically. Have a floor plan and detailed notes available to avoid disappointment. Some money saving ideas to consider; using ceremony decorations at the reception site; check with your reception site to see if they have any decorations or props that you might be allowed to use; use seasonal flowers; instead of ordering special flowers for the cake table or head table use the bouquets for the attendants; use lots of tulle and mini lights to create a magical effect; use a simple potted plant or glass bowl with floating flower for a centerpiece and fill the room with lots of candles. Use your imagination!

Most important... have fun and enjoy your wedding day!
