Mulitple Weddings in a Family

Q: My fiancé's sister got engaged just before we did. They planned their wedding for 2005, but we don't want to wait until 2006 to have our wedding. We want our wedding in fall 2005. Is it rude to be engaged after, but marry before my fiancé's sister?

A: Congratulations to you both! I can appreciate the situation you must be in... I really don't think it's fair for anyone or any circumstances to dictate your wedding date. Just because your fiancé's sister got engaged before you, doesn't necessarily mean that she has to marry before you. If you've planned to be married in 2005 and waiting for 2006 is not part of your plans, I would say that you should go ahead and stick to your original idea. There's no need to delay your wedding. You each have to evaluate your own situations and do what is best for you on a personal and individual level. There is no official or formal "etiquette" that will prevent you from going at your own pace.
