What is a bomboniere?
by Arti & Mestieri

The word derives from the French "bonbonnière"; meaning a small container to hold sweets.

In many European cultures, this concept was adopted, and pretty boxes or small dishes were filled with traditional candied almonds and given to wedding guests as a thank you gift.

Today the concept of "bomboniere" has been expanded on and has become a tradition that is an integral part of the wedding reception.

In addition to the "confetti" (candied almonds), couples are choosing to thank their wedding guests with small gifts that reflect their personal taste; the theme of their wedding; or a favourite colour.

These gifts can be as elaborate as a sterling silver trinket box or as simple as rose topped truffle box, the gift should be reflection and a reminder of you and your wedding day.

In giving these gifts, please remember that presentation is very important, and that the simplest gift can be transformed into a small treasure. Choose pretty ribbons and packaging that co-ordinates with other elements of your wedding reception, perhaps the ribbon will match your bridesmaids' dresses; or the ivory damask boxes are the same as the tablecloths in the reception hall; or you top the gift box with an miniature pink rosebud because all the flowers at your wedding are pink roses.

This attention to details and little touches will certainly enhance your wedding reception as well as extend a very special "thank you" to all your guests, allowing them to take a small part of your special day home with them.
