Questions to ask your Videographer
by American Media Productions
What style of videography do you offer?
There are two styles of filming that most videographers offer:
interactive or unobtrusive. The first style is when the videographer interacts
with the bridal party to create skits for your video. These can be fun
and engaging if your bridal party responds well to being put on the spot.
The other style of filming is unobtrusive, natural coverage. This requires
a videographer with a good eye who is capable of capturing the little
moments without anyone noticing they are being videotaped.
What type of lighting do you use?
If your wedding takes place in a very dark church or hall without
any windows, be prepared to have at least some lighting. Most of the time
videographers may not need to use any lighting at all for the majority
of the day. Advances in technology have given way to digital cameras capable
of capturing remarkable footage in tough low-light conditions. Therefore
many videographers only need to use some lighting at night during the
reception. Either way, if your videographer wants to use lighting, ask
to see what video footage would look like with or without lights for your
wedding day.
Do you use a microphone for the vows?
If you request unobtrusive video coverage, then having a wireless
microphone is extremely important to hear your vows clearly on your wedding
video. Without a wireless mic, the videographer would have to position
him/herself directly in front of the couple to be able to capture this
sound. If it is available, do request it.
