Wedding Videography Styles

When looking for a videographer, you may come across two different styles
of coverage: traditional and unobtrusive. Traditional coverage often involves
setting up various scenes to create a wedding story, whereas unobtrusive
coverage means that the videographer captures only what naturally unfolds
in front of his or her eyes. Lets examine in detail the differences between
the two.
Traditional "Directed" Coverage
Traditional, often called "directed videos", usually involve
the videographer creating mini-scenes with the bridal party throughout
your wedding day. These skits can be fun and entertaining, often replicating
famous movie scenes while using your bridesmaids and ushers as cast members.
This type of coverage can involve setting up and repeating scenes until
the perfect shot is captured to compliment your video. The themes for
a directed video are endless. The editing usually involves more special
effects, titles and music so as to enhance the created skits.
Unobtrusive "Documentary" Coverage
A newer style that has emerged in recent years is the unobtrusive, documentary
form of video coverage. This involves an adaptive videographer who captures
events as they unfold naturally before the camera lens. Often this type
of coverage involves minimal lighting and equipment so as to remain as
inconspicuous as possible. The unobtrusive videographer does not stage
any scenes, he or she captures the candid moments of your day. The editing
in an unobtrusive video involves minimal effects or just the basics, such
as black & white and slow motion, to create that documentary feel
for your video.
Many videographers adopt a style that reflects one of the trends above.
If you are not sure of which style you prefer, then make plans to visit
both types of videographers. Once you see how very different these forms
are, you will be able to determine which style is right for you.
