Makeup Tips for Ethnic Brides
by Brides-Beautiful - Sharon Danley

No matter what the ethnicity, all brides want to look beautiful and timeless on their wedding day while still respecting tradition and keeping up with the times.

An essential component in makeup is to make sure foundations match skin tone. Black skin looks best when there is a golden rather than ashy tone to their foundation. Young Asians desire their own natural skin colour contrary to the misconception they prefer a very pale version of themselves. Indian brides appreciate tasteful gold iridescence on the eyes or very slightly on the lower lip to compliment their elaborate jewelry. Mediterranean gals prefer everything from very minimal to intense looking makeup, whereas in the Scandinavian, British or cooler countries complexions can possess extremely pale to ruddy complexions that may require neutralizing the undertone.

A great red lipstick goes a long way for the Chinese Tea Ceremony dress. Traditional Indian dress can be complimented with an array of rich reds readily available. And of course, with the traditional white wedding dress, the bride is best complimented with a lipstick colour that harmonizes with their attendants’ dresses and flowers.

Tip: Avoid lipstick that is too bright on pale complexions.

Tip: Eyes in any ethnicity are the focus. Generally the darker the skin tone and intense the eyebrow hair and lashes, the more attention should be placed on shaping than product.

Tip: Only black skin and hair warrants black eyeliner and even then it should be the darkest brown rather than black for a timeless, elegant look. A matte finish is also more graceful and refined. Its about the bride’s charm, not her makeup - in any language.

Tip: Don’t try to create an unnatural crease with Asian eyes - it doesn’t usually work and draws attention to the makeup rather than the incredible beauty of their natural eye shape.

Tip: Clear mascara is a wonderful product to keep eyebrows swept up and held in place. Apply up and outward then hold down for about 10 seconds to lock in place.

Tip: No matter what the ethnicity, unless a bride has amazingly think lashes, then false ones properly trimmed and specific to her face and eye shape, are one of the best ways to achieve intensity for the camera and stage without looking overdone up close.

Brides are beautiful in all cultures, age ranges and abilities. Its been my privilege to provide service to so many wonderful brides and their families - in our kitchens we are all the same.
