Children at a wedding

Q: I am not having any children attend my wedding. Is this acceptable and how should I word my invitations?

A: I can certainly understand your situation. It can be distracting, at times, to bring children to such a formal occasion. Yes, it is acceptable to indicate that you would not like children to attend, on the invitation. It is perfectly normal and is actually quite common. I suggest you word it in the following way:

1) "no children please" or

2) "admittance restricted to those 19 years of age and older".

The second is particularly good, because it sounds like you're placing a restriction on age limits due to alcohol-related issues. People tend to get less offended this way.
