Wedding Attendants and Wedding Gifts

Q: I have suddenly been told by some relatives that the attendants are not required to provide a wedding gift because they purchased their attire. Is this true?

A: To be honest with you, some people do believe that since they are attendants and are obligated to purchase their attire, they are freed from the responsibility of purchasing a gift. Other people simply do not share that view. My gut feeling is that you may receive some gifts from your attendants, but they may not be as extensive or as pricey as you might have originally expected, since they have other wedding-related things to think about as well. There's really no regulation that states that attendants "are not required to purchase gifts", however, you should expect that point of view to surface, just in case it does. Ultimately, everyone makes their own decisions as to whether or not they believe that gift-giving is appropriate.
