Paying for Bridal Party Attire and Lodging

Q: I am having a large bridal party at my wedding. I have 10 bridesmaids and ushers, most of which will be coming from out of town. Is it my responsibility to pay for their dresses as well as their lodgings?

A: In most cases, the bride tends to pay for the bridesmaids' gowns. However, this is completely up to you. It depends on your budget and your relationship with your bridesmaids. I would certainly say that paying for their accommodations as well as their gowns is more than is expected of you! While it is up to you whether or not you're going to pay for their gowns, or assist in paying for their gowns, I do have some suggestions regarding the accommodations for your bridal party. It would be a wonderful gesture if you would assist them in locating a hotel which is near the venue. Also, you can help them by making a group reservation and possibly obtaining a discounted rate for them. Another option you have is to find some accommodations for them with close friends or family members in order to save some money.
