Just like a car, the more options you ask for the higher the price. For example, you can hire a videographer for $400 to cover the church, park and reception without editing and titling. Just ask for the raw footage and save it until you have the funds to have it edited and titled.

Students in art schools and media are common source of these services. Warning though, you should ask to see some of their work. Check the type of camera they are using and its condition. The minimum standard is a SVHS or Hi8 format. If they are using digital, make sure they know how to use it in low light condition and finally discuss in detail which scenes you want.

Most videographers start this way. They even video friends for free. Just remember, the more experienced the videographer, the more expensive it usually is. Editing takes more time than the actual shooting itself. Also remember to make sure that every scene is discussed to avoid missing an important one.
